Just a List of Rules For Projects – King and Crown

We welcome and support projects from a variety of categories: Children, Church, Church Planting, Climate Change, Creativity, Denominations, Disaster Relief, Education, Families, Food, Homelessness, Housing, Human Trafficking, Humanitarian, Innovation, Simple Helps, Medical, Missions, Orgs, Persecuted Church, Personal, Sanitation, Serving, Slavery and Water projects.  Similarly, we have jobs posted here from a diverse set of fields, both secular and sacred (though they should all be somehow connected to the church/Christians/faith in some form) Here are five rules every King and Crown project/job must follow.

Projects & Jobs are a tool for Christians to do good work.

Beneficiaries of a project don’t need to be Christian of course, not by any means but projects listed here should be initiated by a Christian or Christian organisation. Likewise, jobs don’t have to be working for a Christian organisation per-se but the job should be expressly for a Christian. Projects can’t fundraise for things antithetical to classical Christianity.  Jobs can’t be positions that would be compromising for a Christian. We are happy with tangents here, but the outcome should forward the cause of the church, be that funding someone through bible college, a Christian community showing the love of Jesus to a non-christian neighbour by fundraising for them, Building a new church, sending a missionary, recording a new album from a Christian artist or joining other Christians on mission to a workplace (for example). All of that is behaviour we strongly endorse. We reserve the right to remove any project/job that doesn’t fit the site or is in conflict with our theological statement.  That doesn’t mean your project or idea isn’t great, or job a great opportunity, it just means there may be other places to fundraise or find staff.  We will always contact you if we have any concerns.

Projects and Jobs can’t be used to fund/staff endeavours of hate.

Just as much as this tool can’t be used by non-christian or vaguely Christian groups to fund/staff work that really has no place in christian church (see point one), it also can’t be used to fund/staff a west borough baptist style God hates X campaign.  We won’t allow things such as, but not limited to, raising funds or rallying people to protest abortion clinics, pride rallies or campaigning against groups that some Christians may consider ‘undesirable’. Just as we won’t allow those same groups to use the platform to make stands or statements about the church. We are pro-life, hold a biblical view of sex, sexuality and gender and all the rest, but we also believe that there are better ways to have conversations with people about these things than making signs and creating an atmosphere of hate born out of the church.  Why not take someone who has different opinions than you out for coffee and get to know their story instead?  Then fundraise to help them, love them, serve them and share the gospel with them.  It won’t kill you (probably) and it will follow the example set out by Jesus who hung out with a motley crew of prostitutes, dock workers and thugs, all so that he could show them who he was and what he was accomplishing for them (and you).

Projects & Jobs must be honest and clearly presented.

Our community is built on trust and communication. Projects and Jobs ads can’t mislead people or misrepresent facts, and creators should be candid about what they plan to accomplish. Jobs and projects must represent a real and genuine opportunity.  For example, when a project involves manufacturing and distributing something complex, like a gadget, we require projects to show backers a prototype of what they’re making, and we prohibit the use of misleading imagery.

  • Prototype demonstration should reflect a product’s current state and should not include any CGI or special effects to demonstrate functionality that does not yet exist. If a project requires software and hardware integration, creators are required to show that functionality and any dependency clearly, or disclose that it has not yet been developed.

  • Misleading imagery includes photorealistic renderings and heavily edited or manipulated images or videos that could give backers a false impression of a product’s current stage of development.

Projects can’t offer equity but Jobs can.

Investment is not permitted on King and Crown. Projects can’t offer incentives like equity, revenue sharing, or investment opportunities.  Jobs however may include such things as part of a whole renumeration package.  Be good to the people you are offering jobs to.

Projects & Jobs can't involve prohibited items or represent illegal activity.

We prohibit projects that are illegal, heavily regulated, or potentially dangerous for backers or project beneficiaries, as well as projects that the creator did not make or is no way involved with.

Any item claiming to diagnose, cure, treat, or prevent an illness or condition (whether via a device, app, book, nutritional supplement, or other means).  Employing people into a position to produce this may be fine however.

Contests, coupons, gambling, and raffles.  The church shouldn’t really be a casino.

Energy food and drinks.  Let’s keep it healthy and produce things that promote human flourishing.

Jobs or projects that produce offensive material (e.g., hate speech, encouraging violence against others, etc).  Nope!

Offering a project or job to manufacture genetically modified organism (unless the job is in that industry and the person is qualified to work in that industry).

Buying a new private jet for a pastor or a tele-evangelist… or really anyone.  Nobody really needs a private jet. Basically replace ‘private jet’ with anything else that pastors and tele-evangelists don’t actually need, and then use common sense.  Probably tele-evangelist jobs shouldn’t really be on here too.

Offering drugs, alcohol or anything that fits basically in the broad rubric of dodgy as a project (there may be some exceptions here… legit christian monks make some great beer.  This will be case by case though).

Offering financial, money-processing, or credit services; financial intermediaries or cash-equivalent instruments; travel services (e.g., vacation packages); phone services (e.g., prepaid phone services, 900 numbers); and business marketing services.  Let’s not have any pyramid schemes as either jobs or projects ok?

Political fundraising generally speaking.  There are exceptions so we recommend you contact us.  By all means post jobs however to work for political candidates and campaigns.

Pornographic material.  We don’t have missional Christian strippers.  That’s not a thing.

Funding for or any jobs working for any kind of deprogramming service or conversion therapy.

Projects or jobs that promote discrimination, bigotry, or intolerance towards marginalized groups.

Projects that share things that already exist, or repackage a previously-created product, without adding anything new or aiming to iterate on the idea in any way or basically any kind of resale.  Try eBay instead.  Likewise jobs where no real opportunity exists or exists but you don’t actually intend to hire a Christian explicitly for.

Jobs or projects selling drugs, nicotine, tobacco, vaporizers and related paraphernalia.

Jobs or projects selling weapons, replicas of weapons, and weapon accessories.

These rules don’t cover every possible use or every possible exclusion for projects and jobs on King and Crown, but they explain our perspective as it relates to our purpose.  If you are unsure about what you are going to post, feel free to contact us before starting your project or job.
